Dolge wrote this letter in 1927 in greeting to Kentucky Governor William J. Fields and the people of the state on the sesquicentennial anniversary of the birth of Henry Clay. Dolge discussed plans to erect a statue of Clay in Caracas, Venezuela. Clay is honored in South America for his support of freedom movements on that continent.

Henry Clay Sr. (April 12, 1777 – June 29, 1852) was an American attorney and statesman who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and House.
